Yes, just click on the "Shut down monitoring client" under the administration menu.  When the computer restarts again, the monitoring agent will resume monitoring the computer.  You can also disable most of the monitoring features so your data is not reported.

5. Can I temporarily extend the allowed time that an user can use the computer or software application?
Yes.  You must first enable the time remaining icon to be displayed in the systray (lower right corner of the desktop).  This is done within the administrative client under "System and User Options".  Once enabled the user can review how much time they have remaining and only an administrator can temporarily extend the time.

6. Spybots/anti spyware affecting PCMonitor .
There has been a lot of installations of various spybots lately that can affect PCMonitor. These programs have the ability delete registry settings after they are added. All can be configured to retain the setting to enable our product to work.

Please check your installed software and see if you are running any of these or similar programs. Microsoft Spyware, Ad-adware, Spybot, SpyKiller, WinPatrol, Webroot, SpyBlocs, SpyClean and Spy-Killer  to name a few.

If you have any of these or similar programs running please have them exclude any items that references {D6862A22-1DD6-11D3-BB7C-444553540000} and allow full control for the files iepmcsbs.dll and pmc50.exe.

Sometimes, it is required to uninstall the monitoring client and then reinstall the client in case you found these anti-spyware program. If so, please follow these instructions.

  • Open the administration client and select "Shutdown Monitoring Agent" under the administration menu. This will shutdown the monitoring client.
  • Uninstall the client.
  • Restart the system

  • Run the anti-spyware program and see if it picks up any of the below references
  • Modify the anti-spyware to exclude any found references.

8. Why is the system not capturing screens?
Screen capturing is either turned off under the administrative menu or your system is running low on disk space.  If your system is running low on disk space, PCMonitor™ will stop capturing screens and will generate an alert for you when you start the administrative software.

Top

9. How much disk space do the screen shots consume?
That depends on the screen rate, how much color appears on the screen when the capture is made and the screen resolution.  The default capture rate is every 1 minutes and approximately 1.5MB of space will be used per computer hour.  If you change the rate to 30 seconds, then you will use 3mb per hour.  You can also decrease the resolution to reduce the amount of disc space required for each screen shop

Every time you start the administrative client, the logon screen will inform you how much space you are using.  Therefore, you can decide when to purge screen shot history or you can set the software to automatically delete history files under the "Deleting Options" settings.

Remember, you can also turn off this feature for any software application.  For example, you can turn it off for game software but leave it enable for instant messaging or browser activity.

.
XP Home related issues.
An XP feature called “Fast Switching” causes the problem. Fast switching was developed to speed up the process of one person logging off the computer and another one logging onto the computer.

In order for PCMonitor to capture the various users who use the system, we must disable this feature. Fast switching can be turned off by using the administrator account of your system and by opening the option of "User Accounts" in the control panel.  Once you open the "User Accounts" screens, click on "Change the way users log on or off". Clear the check box that says "Use Fast User Switching” and it will be disabled.

14How do I uninstall the software?
First, open the administrative client and select "Shutdown Monitoring Agent" under the administrative menu.  Then, open Windows Control Panel to select "Add/Remove Programs" and remove the software.  The default installation places an entry in the Control Panel's option of Add/Remove Programs as PCM.  If your trial has expired and you are not able to open the administrative client, please email support@pcmonitor.com and we will send you a link to extend the trial for an additional 7 days.

If you have enabled the feature to "Hide" PCM from appearing in the control panel, you can open the administrative client and select "System and User Options" from the administrative menu.  The first tab called "System Options" will allow you reset the display for the control panel.

15. Only users with administrative rights are reporting.
Windows XP Home and Professional introduced new security settings for folders and files.  This change does require you to reset the permission setting on a folder in your system.  Once changed, users that belong to limited user groups will start reporting to the database.
